The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct an open competitive Computer-Based Examination in July–August 2026 to recruit 731 vacancies for Stenographer positions. These include Grade ‘C’ (Group ‘B’, Non-Gazetted) and Grade ‘D’ (Group ‘C’) roles across various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations under the Government of India.
Accordingly, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) invites online applications, in the prescribed format, for the recruitment of Stenographers in various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations of the Government of India.
The SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and Grade ‘D’ Recruitment Examination 2026 is an annual exam conducted by the Staff Selection Commission under the Government of India to select qualified candidates for stenographer posts. The commission organizes an open competitive Computer-Based Examination each year for recruitment to Grade ‘C’ (Group ‘B’, Non-Gazetted) and Grade ‘D’ (Group ‘C’) positions across various Ministries, Departments, and Organizations.
For the 2026 recruitment cycle, only candidates possessing the required stenography skills are eligible to apply. The minimum educational qualification for these posts is passing 12th standard or equivalent.
SSC Stenographer Recruitment 2026 Vacancies
Stenographer Grade ‘C’: Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years of age as on 01/08/2026, with age relaxation applicable as per government rules. Applicants should have passed the 12th standard or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University. The post carries a pay grade of ₹4600 and ₹4200 (pre-revised).
Stenographer Grade ‘D’: Candidates should be between 18 and 27 years of age as on 01/08/2026, with applicable age relaxation as per government norms. Applicants must have passed the 12th standard or an equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University. The position carries a pay grade of ₹2400 (pre-revised).
Application Fee
An application fee of ₹100 is required, payable through BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or via Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, or RuPay debit cards. However, candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwD, Ex-Servicemen categories, as well as all women applicants, are exempted from paying the fee.

Selection Process
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct an open competitive Computer-Based Examination for direct recruitment to Stenographer posts in July–August 2026. The examination scheme will be as follows:
Candidates shortlisted in the Computer-Based Examination will be required to appear for the Stenography Skill Test. In this test, candidates will receive a 10-minute dictation in either English or Hindi (as chosen in the online application form). The dictation speed will be 100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and 80 w.p.m. for Stenographer Grade ‘D’.

Eligible and interested candidates must apply online in the prescribed format through the SSC recruitment website between 24/04/2026 and 15/05/2026 for the SSC Stenographer Recruitment Examination 2026. The application correction window, along with the facility for online payment of correction charges, will be available from 20/05/2026 to 21/05/2026 (up to 23:00 hours).
